    Last updated 25 days ago

As many of you have heard, whether from your research or visiting our office this week, this week is National Infertility Awareness Week.  Although this is nationally celebrated for only one week a year, Dr. Goldstein and team are committed to spreading awareness 365 days a year.  We often blog about boosting fertility, or the emotional aspects one may face on their journey, however, this week we have decided to launch a new blog segment created by YOU to help others.

Lets CELEBRATE your journey from infertility to parenthood with your personal stories!  Every one of you has a story, and we would love for you to share it.  You can be a part of inspiring the many others who may be looking at options or in the process of making their dreams of a family come true.

If you are interested in being a guest blogger this week and in weeks to come, please email me your story!

We look forward to hearing from you and even more excited about all the people out there who may read your story and gain a feeling of HOPE!

Please submit your stories to Molly, at madair@fertilitytexas.com

Tips for Communicating With Your Partner About Infertility

    Last updated 1 month ago

Couples are characterized as infertile when they are unable to conceive a viable pregnancy after one full year of unprotected intercourse. While new advances in medicine have led to the development of various fertility treatments, the first step is to openly and effectively communicate with your partner.

    Avoid Placing Blame

Infertility should never be blamed on either partner, as studies show that approximately one-third of all infertility cases are caused by both male and female factors.

    Choose an Appropriate Time

Timing can make all the difference when it comes to discussing infertility, so choose a time in which both you and your partner are in a relaxed state and can focus all of your attention on the matter at hand. You will also want to ensure that you have the discussion in a private place that allows both of you to express your true feelings.

    Make Topic Notes Beforehand

The vast array of emotions experienced when dealing with infertility can interfere with effective communication. Let your emotions out while still staying on track by making notes ahead of time so that you cover all of the necessary topics.

    Discuss Preferred Fertility Treatments

It is important that you take your partner’s preferred infertility treatments into account as much as you do your own preferences. Creating a family is a joint task, so be sure to treat it as such.

    Consider Counseling

Sometimes couples need to include a third party that can help navigate successful communication. When you and your partner are struggling to express yourselves, consider receiving professional infertility counseling at your Plano fertility center.

Here at Fertility Specialists of Texas, we address both the emotional and physical well-being of our patients. Our fertility center offers counseling services as well as a Mind/Body Program that teaches relaxation techniques, coping mechanisms, and offers group interaction with other fertility patients. Call our Plano office at (866) 945-3046 to set up an initial consultation.

Understanding the Tubal Ligation Reversal Procedure

    Last updated 1 month ago

A tubal ligation is a procedure in which a woman’s fallopian tubes are blocked, tied, or cut to prevent eggs from traveling from the ovaries to the fallopian tubes where they can be fertilized. Many women who have undergone a tubal ligation wish to have the procedure reversed later in life so that they can regain their fertility.

Most tubal ligation surgeries leave two remaining fallopian segments, including the proximal tubal segment emerging from the uterus and the distal segment ending next to the ovary. Tubal ligation reversal procedures are performed using a minilapartomy, or a small incision along the bikini line, in order to open and reconnect these fallopian tube segments and enable egg fertilization. Unlike other tubal ligation reversal procedures, this microsurgical method eliminates the need for self-retraining retractors and therefore minimizes postoperative pain.

Your fertility specialist will take a number of factors into consideration to determine if you are a candidate for a tubal ligation reversal, including your age, tubal status, egg quality, and egg quantity. A previous history of pelvic conditions such as endometriosis and uterine fibroids will also be considered when determining your eligibility. Individuals who are not candidates for a tubal ligation reversal may consider IVF treatments as an alternative. During IVF, the female patient is prescribed medication to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs, which are then retrieved and fertilized by the partner’s sperm in a laboratory dish.

The best way to determine if tubal ligation reversal is right for you is to set up an appointment with a qualified Frisco fertility center. Whether you’re interested in more information on a tubal ligation reversal, IVF, or male infertility and pregnancy complications, Fertility Specialists of Texas is here to help. Contact our physicians at (866) 945-3046 to get started.

My doctor says I need an HSG, now what?

    Last updated 1 month ago

When you are trying to conceive, and reach out to a fertility doctor, you will usually be scheduled for an HSG.  HSG, which stands for hysterosalingogram, is not only fun to try to pronounce, it is also quite effective in determining why you are not becoming pregnant.

During an HSG, a special dye is passed through a thin tube that travels through the vagina and up to the uterus.  It then travels to each fallopian tube where several pictures are taken for your doctor’s review.  These pictures can show any abnormalities, such as blockage that could prevent your eggs from traveling to the uterus.  It can also show any problems on the inside of your uterus that could prevent a fertilized egg from implanting properly.   We also use HSGs to determine if a tubal ligation has been successful and to look for polyps or adhesions.  The test is be done 2 to 5 days after your period has ended, and before you ovulate in the next month.

The test can be done by a radiologist in a hospital; however, since Dr. Goldstein is specialized in reproductive endocrinology, we are lucky to have this test readily available in our state-of-the-art facility.  The test usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and you may experience some mild, menstrual-like craps during and after the test.

This is a test that we will do early on after seeing Dr. Goldstein.  We will also perform a semen analysis, blood tests to check your luteinizing hormone and progesterone, or follicle stimulating hormone.  If you have any questions about the HSG, our staff can help answer any of your concerns for you before your appointment.   As always, before any treatment, please be sure to fill your doctor in on any past and previous medical conditions.
